Highlights

Nome's mean monthly temperature for January was 9.2°F, 4.0°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 40°F on the 12th. On the 9th, the 35°F observed set a new record for that day, breaking the old 1937 record by 1°F. The lowest temperature for the month was -28°F on the 26th.

Precipitation was less than normal with 0.71" observed for the month, 0.23" below the normal of 0.94" normal. Snowfall was also less than normal with 10.4" measured for the month, 2.3" less than normal. However on the 16th, 4.0" of snow was observed, breaking the old record for that day by 0.1", set in 1995. Mean snow depth was 11", just 73% of normal. The average wind speed was 8.0 mph, while the highest wind speed was 43 mph on the 13th, from a northeasterly direction.
