Highlights

Nome had a mean temperature for January of 13.5°F, a substantial 8.3°F above the normal value of 5.2°F. With the exception of two short cold spells, temperatures tended toward normal or above normal for most of January. The maximum temperature was reported at 34°F on the 1st and 13th. The minimum temperature for the month was observed on the 27that -20°F.
Unlike the previous four months, January had above normal precipitation with a total of 1.16". This is 23% above the normal amount of 0.94". Snowfall totaled 16.5", 27% above the normal of 12.7". The average monthly wind speed was 11.1 mph, while the maximum wind speed was 47 mph, and occurred on the 29th of the month, blowing from a northeasterly direction.
