Highlights

Nome was 4.9°F warmer than normal this December, with a mean monthly temperature of 14.4°F. The warmest temperature occurred on the 7th, with a recorded temperature of 37°F, while the coldest temperature was observed at the end of the month, on the 29th, with a chilly -20°F recorded.

Precipitation was above normal, with 2.01" recorded, which was 0.93" above normal. Snowfall was also heavier than expected with 18.4" of snow measured. This was 3.9" above the expected amount of 14.5" for December. On the 20th, 6.5" of snow fell, breaking the previous recorded for the day of 3.8", set in 2003. The average wind speed was 8.2 mph, with the fastest wind speed recorded on the 11th from a northeasterly direction, at 38 mph.
