Highlights

Nome had a mean monthly temperature this August of 53.6°F, 3.5°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 72°F on the 31st, which set a new record for that day, breaking the old 1978 record by 6°F. On the previous day, the 30th, a high of 67°F was observed, setting a record for that day, by breaking the previous 1970 record by 3°F. The lowest temperature for the month was 35°F on the 25th.

Precipitation was near normal, with 3.03” measured, just 0.19” lower than the normal of 3.22”. The average wind speed was 7.7 mph while the highest wind speed was 34 mph on the 22nd from a northerly direction.
