Highlights

Nome reported a mean monthly temperature in August of 48.0°F, a negative deviation of 2.1°F from the long term mean. The warmest monthly temperature was 70°F observed on the 19thof August, while the coldest temperature was a light frost (30°F), which occurred on the 28thof the month. No new temperature extremes were observed during July.
Precipitation was high, totaling 4.36", 35% above the expected amount. The rainfall of the 11thAugust set a new record for the day (1.21"), surpassing the old record of 1.05 set in 1958. The average wind speed for the month was 7.7 mph, and the highest gust observed was 37 mph on the 24th.
