Highlights

Kodiak was 7.0°F warmer than normal in December, with a monthly mean temperature of 38.2°F observed. The highest temperature for the month was 47°F on the 7th, which also set a new record for that day, breaking the old one set in 1978 by 1°F. The next day, the 8th, tied the record for that day set in 1978. The lowest temperature for the month was 23°F on the 27th.

Precipitation was much higher than normal, with 13.79" of precipitation measured for the month, 158% of the normal of 8.73". The 3.03" recorded on the 28th smashed the old record, set in 1978, for that day by 1.21". Also, the 2.67" that fell on the 29th topped the 2003 record of 1.09. However, snowfall was much lighter than normal, a mere 2% of the 13.8" normally expected, measuring at just 0.3" for the month. The average wind speed was 11.1 mph, with a highest wind speed of 59 mph on the 7th, from a northeasterly direction.
