Highlights

The average temperature in Juneau for January was 31.3°F, 3.0°F above the long-term mean of 28.3°F and was the first month in the last nine with above normal temperatures. The maximum temperature of the month was 43°F on the 1st, while the minimum was 5°F and occurred on the 28th and 29th.
Total precipitation was heavier than normal at 7.70", 44% above the expected amount of 5.35". Total snowfall for the month was 18.2", 9.5" below normal. Due to the above normal temperatures less precipitation fell as snow then expected, which explains the above normal precipitation, but the below normal snowfall. The average wind speed was 6.6 mph, and the maximum wind speed of 42 mph occurred on the 17th, blowing from a southeasterly direction.
