Highlights

In Fairbanks, the average temperature was 27.5°F, a full 4°F above the long term mean. This October did not set any new average temperature record. The record average temperature for October was set in 1923 with 38.3°F having been recorded. The 1920's were warm in Interior Alaska, and the only decade that surpassed this mean temperature, was the 1980's. 1926 was also the warmest year in the Fairbanks record, which reaches back over a century. The high temperature for October was 59°F on the 1st and the 2nd, and the low was -4°F on the 31st. Precipitation was measured at 0.45”, 51% below normal for the month. The snowfall total was 7.7”, and the heaviest snowfall of 1.9” was recorded on the 18th. Average wind speed at the Fairbanks Airport was 3.2 mph and the highest gust was 23mph on the 1st. Fairbanks recorded 9 cloudy days, however, 15 days in October, fog occurred in the morning hours.
