Highlights

Fairbanks had a mean monthly temperature of 3.5°F this January, 11.4°F above the normal -7.9°F. The highest temperature for the month was 36°F on the 2nd, while the lowest was -20°F on the 16th.

Precipitation was exceptionally light with 0.01" measured, while 0.58" is normally expected. This ties January 1996 for the lowest January precipitation on record (using a 110 year record). Snowfall was just 8% of normal, with 0.8" measured and 10.3" expected. This is the second lightest January snowfall on record after the 0.7" from 1966. The average wind speed was 3.2 mph while the highest wind speed was 23 mph, from a northerly direction on the 19th.
