Highlights

December in Fairbanks was warmer than normal, with a monthly mean temperature of -2.2°F, 1.9°F above the normal of -4.1°F. The highest temperature for the month was 45°F on 30th, which also set a record for that day, breaking the old 1982 record by 10°F. The high of 40°F the next day also set a new record, toping the 39°F from 1969. The lowest temperature for the month occurred on Christmas day, the 25th, at -29°F.

Precipitation was less than normal with just 0.07" of precipitation measured, and 0.64" is normal. Snowfall was also much lighter than normal, with a mere 9% of the 12.1" normally expected with 1.1" of snowfall measured. The highest wind speed was 30 mph from a northerly direction on the 17th. The average wind speed was 2.2 mph.
