Fairbanks December 2013


Fairbanks' mean temperature for December was near normal at -4.5°F, just 0.4°F below the expected mean of -4.1°F. Temperatures started cold for the month, warmed up, then fell colder again, repeating this pattern for the month. The warmest observed temperature was on the 8th and the 9th, with 32.0°F recorded. The lowest temperature for the month was a cold -41°F on the 26th.

0.78" of precipitation was recorded, which was 0.14" above normal. 14.3" of snow was observed for December, which was 118% of the normal of 12.1". 4.8" of this total was measured on the 22nd, which set a daily record for the day for both precipitation (0.25" water equivalent) and snowfall, both earlier records were set in 1989.
