Highlights

August for Fairbanks was warmer than normal, with a monthly mean temperature of 59.1°F, 3.0°F above the expected 56.1°F. On the 11th, the highest temperature for the month, of 80°F, was recorded while 30th had the lowest temperature of 33°F.

As with the rest of the summer, precipitation was heavier than normal with 2.29” of precipitation observed, 0.41” above normal. On the 1st, the month opened up with a new record for the day, with 0.89” of precipitation observed, shattering the 1938 record of 0.47”. Furthermore the heavier rain this month helped break the June through August record for rain from 1930, with 11.63” measured for this year, just 0.04” above the 1930 record for this period. The average wind speed was 4.2 mph, with the greatest wind speed recorded at 28 mph on the 29th, from a westerly direction.
