Anchorage September 2014


Highlights

This September Anchorage observed a monthly mean temperature of 49.2°F, just 0.6°F higher than its normal of 48.6°F. The warmest day of the month was 66°F on the 11th, while the coldest was 32°F, occurring on multiple days: the 25th, 26th, and 30th.

Precipitation was heavier than normal, with 4.21" of precipitation observed for the month, 1.22" above the 2.99" normal. While no daily precipitation records were set in Anchorage, the twelve days of precipitation from September 9th to the 20th tied for the fifth longest stretch of rain after 17 days in 1979 as well as 13 days in 1953, 1981, and 1991. No snow was observed while 0.4" were expected. The average wind speed was 4.7 mph, while the highest wind speed was 37 mph on the 2nd, from a southeasterly direction.
