Anchorage had a mean monthly temperature of 52.0°F this May, 4.2°F above the long term normal. The highest temperature for the month was 72°F occurring on both the 15^th and the 27^th, setting a new daily record for the 15^th, breaking the old 2014 record by 7°F. The high of 71°F on the 13^th tied the record set in 1996. The lowest temperature for the month was 34°F on the 2^nd and 5^th. This was the second warmest May on record, with only 2014 having a warmer mean monthly temperature by 0.5°F.

Precipitation was lighter than normal, with 0.33” measured and 0.72” expected. There was no observed snowfall for the month, while there is normally 0.3”. The highest wind speed was 41 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 16^th, while the average wind speed was 7.5 mph.
