Anchorage March 2015


Highlights

The mean monthly temperature for Anchorage in March was 29.7°F, 3.1°F over the long-term monthly mean. The warmest temperature for the month was 49°F, occurring on the 17th, 28th, and 30th, while the coldest was -2°F occurring on the 14th. On the 24th, the 48°F that was observed broke the old 1974 record high for that day by 1°F. Daily record high temperatures were tied on the 17th, 27th and 30th.

Precipitation was higher than normal, with 0.77" measured, 0.17" over the expected amount. Most of the precipitation fell on the 7th with 0.51”, breaking the old daily record of 0.39” set in 2006. Snowfall however was very slight, especially compared to normal, with 0.2" observed, a whopping 9.7" below normal. The highest wind speed was 39 mph on the 16th, blowing from a southeasterly direction, while the average wind speed was calculated as 5.8 mph.
