Highlights

The December mean temperature for Anchorage was 14.7°F, 4.3°F below normal. The warmest temperature recorded was a balmy 33°F on the 6th and 7th, while the coldest was a chilly -9°F, observed on the 17th and 18th. Overall temperatures were varied throughout the month, starting off cool for the month, warming up, and repeating this cycle until the end of the month.

In December 1.60" precipitation of precipitation fell which was 144% of normal. Snowfall was also heavier than normal with 23.1" of snow, 6.4" above the normal amount. A new daily record of snow was observed on the 14th of 8.5", beating out the old record set in in 1967 by 0.8". The mean wind speed for the month was 4.7 mph, with the greatest gust recorded on the 15th, from a southerly direction.
