Arctic Sea Ice Extent: September 26, 2024

September 26, 2024:  The Arctic sea ice has now begun to increase this past week at a rate of 4.37%, from the level on 09/11/2024 of 4.284 M km2 to 4.480 M km2 for this week.  The seasonal turnaround to the ice growth season no doubt took some place sometime between Sep 12-17, but we will probably not ever quite know the exact date due to an unfortunate data gap.

The negative sea ice anomaly this week was higher than the anomaly of -1.135 M km2 on 09/11/2024 to a greater negative anomaly of -1.301 M km2 on 09/26/2024, and so more anomalously negative for this time of year.
