Arctic Sea Ice Extent: March 13, 2025

March 13, 2025: The Arctic sea ice has experienced a relatively small increase for this week at a rate of 0.79% (as opposed to last week’s increase rate of 1.89%), from the level on 03/06/2025 of 14.081 M km2 to 14.193 M km2 for this week.  Despite this increase, the sea ice extent right now is the lowest on record for this time of year.  We are also probably pretty close to the changeover to the sea ice melt season.

The negative sea ice anomaly this week was lower than the anomaly of -1.0310 M km2 on 03/06/2025 to a lesser negative anomaly of -0.8907 M km2 on 03/13/2025, and so less anomalously negative for this time of year.
