Arctic Sea Ice Extent: July 16, 2025

July 16, 2025: The  Arctic sea ice has experienced a lower decrease rate for this week (6 days – we are still missing a day due to slow updates) of 4.52% (last week’s decrease rate for 8 days was 7.69%), from the level on 07/10/2025 of 8.290 M km2 to 7.915 M km2 for this week.  The sea ice extent for 2025 to date has now dropped to a tie for sixth place for the lowest sea ice extent for this time of year.

The negative sea ice anomaly this week was lower than the anomaly of -1.014 M km2 on 07/10/2025 to a lesser negative anomaly of -0.8188 M km2 on 07/16/2025, and so less anomalously negative for this time of year.
