Arctic Sea Ice Extent: July 10, 2025

July 10, 2025: The Arctic sea ice has experienced a slightly greater decrease for this week (of 8 days) of 7.69% (last week’s decrease rate for 6 days was 7.34%), from the level on 07/02/2025 of 8.981 M km2 to 8.290 M km2 for this week.  The sea ice extent for 2025 to date is in third place for the lowest sea ice extent for this time of year eclipsed by this date in 2021 and 2020 when the seas ice extent was at 8.122 M kmand 7.951 M km2 respectively on 7/10/2021 and 7/10/2020.

The negative sea ice anomaly this week was lower than the anomaly of -1.080 M km2 on 07/02/2025 to a lesser negative anomaly of -1.014 M km2 on 07/10/2025, and so less anomalously negative for this time of year.
