Arctic Sea Ice Extent: February 13, 2025

February 13, 2025: The  Arctic sea ice has has changed to increasing for this week at a rate of 2.05% (as opposed to last week’s decrease rate of -0.45%), from the level on 02/06/2025 of 13.393 M km2 to 13.673 M km2 for this week.  So, after two anomalous weeks in a row of decreasing sea ice extent, we are back to sea ice growth and the seasonal shift to the melting season has not yet started. Arctic sea ice extent for the time of year is very low.

The negative sea ice anomaly this week was lower than the anomaly of -1.2833 M km2 on 02/06/2025 to a lesser negative anomaly of -1.1852 M km2 on 02/13/2025, and so less anomalously negative for this time of year. The sea ice anomaly remains at near record low levels.
