Arctic Sea Ice Extent: December 15, 2022

December 15, 2022: Over the past week, the sea ice has continued to increase but at a lower rate from last week, of 5.89%, from the level on 12/08/2022 of 11.469 M km2 to 12.187 M km2 for this week.

Plot Compiled by: Howard J. Diamond, PhD; Climate Science Program Manager at NOAA’s Air Resources Laboratory

The negative sea ice anomaly this week was less than the anomaly of -0.770 M km2 on 12/08/2022 to a less negative anomaly of -0.543 M km2 on 12/15/2022 and so less anomalously negative for this time of year.
