Arctic Sea Ice Extent: April 13, 2023

  • April 13 2023:  Over the past week, the sea ice has had a fair bit of variability and has had a very small net increase, and since last week, by a rate of only 0.16%, from the level on 04/06/2023 of 14.053 M km2 to 14.076 M km2 for this week. In the daily values over the past week (pasted below, in km2 ) you can see that it was up and down and quite variable- well, Mother Nature throws you a curveball at times.
  • 2023-4-6: 14.053
  • 2023-4-7: 14.151
  • 2023-4-8: 14.119
  • 2023-4-9: 14.143
  • 2023-4-10: 14.199
  • 2023-4-11: 14.181
  • 2023-4-12: 14.124
  • 2023-4-13 14.076

The negative sea ice anomaly this week was higher than the anomaly of -0.940 M km2 on 04/06/2023 to a lesser negative anomaly of -0.692 M km2 on 04/13/2023 and so less anomalously negative for this time of year.
