Arctic Sea Ice Extent: December 1, 2022

December 1, 2022: Over the past week, the sea ice has continued to increase but at a slightly higher rate from last week, of 4.55%, from the level on 11/24/2022 of 10.250 M km2 to 10.739 M km2 for this week.

Plot Compiled by: Howard J. Diamond, PhD; Climate Science Program Manager at NOAA’s Air Resources Laboratory

The negative sea ice anomaly this week was slightly less than the anomaly of -1.007 M km2 on 11/24/2022 to a very slightly less negative anomaly of -1.002 M km2 on 12/01/2022 and so slightly less anomalously negative for this time of year.
