Highlights

October’s mean monthly temperature for Barrow was 30.1°F, a significant 12.9°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 44°F on the 10th, breaking the high temperature record for that day, set in 1925 by 1°F. Three other records were set: on the 4th the 39°F observed broke the old 1937 record for that day by 1°F, on the 29th the 41°F observed shattered the old 1911 record by 6°F, and on the 30th the 36°F observed broke the old 1911 record by 1°F. The high temperature of 35°F on the 26th tied the old record from 1946. The lowest temperature for the month was 13°F on the 25th.

Precipitation was lighter than normal with 0.28” recorded and 0.41” expected. Snowfall was roughly 1/3rd of the 9.1” normal, with 3.0” measured. The highest wind speed for the month was 39 mph occurring on the 1st from a southeasterly direction and again on the 21st from a westerly direction. The average wind speed was 13.5 mph.
