Barrow experienced the seventh month in a row with above normal temperatures this October. The mean value was 27.5°F, an astounding positive deviation of 10.3°F above the normal of 17.2°F. This was the result of temperatures that stayed decidedly above normal for nearly the whole month. The lowest temperature (0°F) occurred on the 20th, while the highest temperature (41°F) was reported on the 5th, setting a new record for that day, topping the previous record of 39°F set way back in 1925. Then on the 6th, the high temperature of 38°F tied the 1992 record. In addition, on six days of the month Barrow set or tied daily high minimum temperature records (not shown).
Precipitation in Barrow (0.98") was heavy at 139% above the normal value of 0.41". Snowfall totaled 12.8", 3.7" above normal. Trace amounts or more of precipitation was recorded on 29 days of the month. The average wind speed was 13.7 mph, while the maximum gust (40 mph) occurred on the 27th, blowing from a westerly direction.
