Highlights

Barrow reported an average temperature in October of 22.8°F, far above the normal of 17.2°F. This value represents the continuing trend of far above normal temperature values of the last two months. A maximum temperature of 33°F occurred on the 1st, 3rd, and 8th, and a minimum temperature of 6°F was observed on the 9th, 10th, and 29th of October. Seasonally above normal temperatures occurred during the middle of the month. No new temperature extremes were observed during October. Precipitation in Barrow, which is low in Northern Alaska, totaled 1.13", far exceeding the normal value of 0.41" and 23.8" of snow fell, the greatest amount of 2.5" on the 4th October. Trace or more amounts of snow fell on 30 days of the month. The mean monthly wind speed was 15.2 mph and a gust of 44 mph occurred on the 16th.
