The average temperature in Barrow was 10.8°F in November, substantially above the normal temperature of -0.9°F. This is the 4th consecutive month with above normal temperatures. The high temperature for the month was 33°F on the 22nd, and the low temperature was -22°F on the 29th. Two days in a row, Barrow set maximum temperature records. The total precipitation for the month was 0.82”, 0.66” above normal, which is substantial for Barrow. Precipitation and snowfall records were also set in November. On the 17th, Precipitation recorded was 0.31” (Snow-Water Equivalent or SWE), from the snowfall that day, broke the old record of 0.22” set in 1970. Snowfall was reported at 6.4”, which broke the old record of 5.1” in 2001. On the 20th, the SWE was 0.11” surpassing the old record of 0.08” set in 2003. Snowfall that day was recorded at 2.4”, breaking the previous record of 1.8” set in 1999. The 21st also set a new precipitation record, when the SWE, from a day of snow, ice pellets, freezing rain and drizzle, totaled 0.11”, narrowly edging out the old record of 0.10” set in 1931. The final record for November was 1” of recorded snowfall on the 26th, which broke the 1925 monthly snowfall record by bringing the total to 19.1”. The total monthly snowfall was recorded at 20.0”, and the snow depth was 8”. Winds averaged 13 mph. Whiteout conditions caused a shut down of traffic and most businesses on the 17th November; the highest gusts were reported at 52 mph.
