Highlights

The mean monthly temperature for May in Barrow was 28.7°F, 7.6°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 44°F on the 30th,which tied the record for this day set way back in 1927. Three other high daily records were set: on the 11th, the 41°F observed broke the 2014 record by 5°F and on the 12th the 41°F observed broke the old 1996 record of 39°F, finally, the high of 42°F on the 13th broke the 1928 record by 4°F. This month also held the highest mean maximum temperature of 32.3°F breaking the old record set in 2015 by 0.2°F, as well as being the warmest May on record, breaking the old 1991 record by 0.7°F.

A mere 0.07” of precipitation was measured, while 0.18” were expected. Snowfall was also lighter than normal, with 0.9” measured, just 33% of normal. The highest wind speed was 30 mph occurring n the 29th from a southeasterly direction. The average wind speed was 11.9 mph.
