Highlights

Barrow had a monthly mean temperature of 26.3°F this May, 5.2°F above the 21.1°F normal. The highest temperature recorded this month was 37°F, recorded on the 1st, 2nd, and 12th, while the lowest was 12°F on the 8th. The 37°F on the 1st tied a 1967 record high temperature for the day, as did the 36°F recorded on the 11th, which tied the record set in 1968.

Precipitation in May was significantly above normal, with a monthly amount of 0.90", 0.72" above the 0.18" normally expected. Part of this was due to the 0.18" that fell on the 12th, which broke the 1982 record of 0.10" for the day, and the 0.30" that fell on the 15th, shattering a 2005 record of 0.09" for the day. This was also the wettest May on record for Barrow, with the previous record of 0.81" set in 1933.

5.1" of snow fell, which is 189% of the normal amount of 2.7". The average wind speed was 13.7 mph, while the greatest wind speed was 52 mph on the 4th, from a southwesterly direction.
