Barrow reported a monthly mean May temperature of 22.7°F, which is above the normal value of 21.1°F. This continues the warming trend observed in Northern Alaska over the last decades. The warmest temperature for the month occurred on the 21st at 38°F, while the coldest temperature for the month was measured on the 5th, a chilly 1°F.
Precipitation for the month was observed at 0.40", over twice as much as the normal value of 0.18". Snowfall was also higher than expected, 5.4", exactly double the long-term average. The mean wind speed was 11.4mph, while the highest wind speed was observed on the 13th at 39mph, blowing from a northerly direction.
