Highlights

Barrow measured a mean monthly temperature of -9.2°F, somewhat above (+1.4°F) the long-term average. This is the only station of the 8 analyzed, which showed an above normal temperature deviation for December. The warmest temperature of 19°F was measured on the 20th, but 3 days later the temperature dropped to -30°F, the coldest day of the month. The 19th recorded also the strongest wind speed with 40 mph, destroying the surface inversion and bringing warmer air from aloft to the surface. The mean monthly wind speed was 12.0 mph, close to normal. Further, precipitation (0.13") was very close to the normal of 0.12" water-equivalent.
