Highlights

August was much warmer than normal in Nome with a monthly mean of 55.7°F, 5.6°F above the expected 50.1°F. The highest temperature for the month was 77°F on the 11th, which also broke old record for that day, from 1960, by 5°F. The lowest temperature was 30°F on the 30th, finally dipping below freezing.

Precipitation was just 53% of normal, with only 1.71” observed while 3.22” was expected. The average wind speed was 7.4 mph, while the highest wind speed for the month was 32 mph from a southwesterly direction on the 31st.
