Highlights

This May Kodiak had a monthly mean temperature of 50.3°F, 6.0°F above the normal of 44.3°F. The highest temperature recorded for the month was 77°F on the 17th, while the lowest was 34°F on the 16th. Four new daily high records were set this month; on the 2nd a temperature of 66°F broke the old 2003 record of 59°F, on the 10th a temperature of 66°F broke the 1940 record of 64°F, the 16th set the official record of 66°F, smashing the 1999 record of 60°F. Finally, the 77°F recorded on the 17th broke the daily record of 68°F set in 2002.

Precipitation was light this month at 1.19", just 21% of the normal amount of 5.62". No snow fell in Kodiak, while 0.2" is the normal expected amount. The average wind speed was 8.1 mph, while the greatest wind speed on the 18th was 46 mph blowing from a northeasterly direction.
