Highlights

The mean monthly temperature for Kodiak in August was 58.9°F, 3.7°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 78°F on the 29th, which set a record for that day, breaking the old 2007 by 8°F. Three other records were set: on the 27th the 73°F observed broke the 1937 record by 1°F, on the 28th the 74°F observed broke the old 1942 record by 1°F, and on the 31st the 73°F observed broke the old 1990 record by 2°F. The lowest temperature for the month was 45°F occurring on the 31st.

Precipitation was lighter than normal, just 72% of the 4.56” expected, with 3.28” measured. The highest wind speed was 34 mph on the 21st from a southeasterly direction, while the average wind speed was 7.1 mph.
