Highlights

Kodiak was colder than normal for April, with a mean temperature of 33.8°F, 3.8°F below the expected mean of 37.6°F. Temperatures were varied throughout the month, with the exception of some very cold days during the second week. The low of 15°F on the 10th was a new daily record, breaking the 1968 value of 16°F. Then the 29th tied the record low of 26°F set both in 1985 and 1951. The maximum temperature for the month (52°F) was observed on the 24th. The minimum temperature was a 13°F, reported on the 11th. Precipitation was very light with a total of 2.57", just 44% of the expected amount of 5.81". Snowfall was also light at 4.6”, only 58% of normal. The snowfall total of 4.4" on the 21st set a new daily record, breaking the previous value of 2.4" set in 1972. The average wind speed was 10.1 mph, while the highest wind gust occurred on the 9th at 47 mph, blowing from a southwesterly direction.
