King Salmon September 2014


Highlights

King Salmon'srecoded monthly mean temperature of 50.9°F this September, 3.3°F above the normal of 47.6°F. Numerous temperature records were set this month: on the 10th, the warmest day this month, the 68°F recorded broke the 2003 record for the day by 1°F. On the 11th 67°F was observed, breaking a 2010 record by 2°F, and the following day 67°F was also observed, tying the old record from 2010 as well. Then on the 26th, the 59°F observed broke the old 2002 record by 2°F. Finally the high of 59°F on the 28th tied the previous record reached in both 2003 and 1983. The coldest day for the month was 24°F on the 23rd.

Precipitation was near average, with only 0.18" above the expected amount of 3.37" observed. However, on the 4th, 1.27" of precipitation fell, breaking the old 1929 record for the day by 0.22". Only trace amounts of snow observed, while 0.1" was expected. The average wind speed was 8.3 mph while the highest wind speed was 45 mph blowing from a southerly direction on the 12th.
