Arctic Sea Ice Extent: November 21, 2024

November 21, 2024: The Arctic sea ice has continued to increase this week but at a lower rate of 5.34% (as opposed to last week’s increase rate of 6.95%), from the level on 11/14/2024 of 9.068 M km2 to 9.580 M km2 for this week.

Plot Compiled by: Howard J. Diamond, PhD; Climate Science Program Manager at NOAA’s Air Resources Laboratory

The negative sea ice anomaly this week was essentially equal to the anomaly of -1.0078 M km2 on 11/14/2024 at a ever so slightly more negative anomaly of -1.0080 M km2 on 11/21/2024, and so very slightly more anomalously negative for this time of year than last week.
