Arctic Sea Ice Extent: March 6, 2025

March 6, 2025: The Arctic sea ice has experienced a relatively small increase for this week at a rate of 1.89% (as opposed to last week’s decrease rate of 0.64%), from the level on 02/27/2025 of 13.815 M km2 to 14.081 M km2 for this week.  Despite this increase, the sea ice extent right now is the lowest on record for this time of year.

The negative sea ice anomaly this week was lower than the anomaly of -1.2703 M km2 on 02/27/2025 to a lesser negative anomaly of -1.0310 M km2 on 03/06/2025, and so less anomalously negative for this time of year.
