Arctic Sea Ice Extent: April 3, 2025

April 3, 2025: The Arctic sea ice has experienced a decrease for this week at a pretty small rate of 0.35% (as opposed to last week’s decrease rate of 2.13%), from the level on 03/27/2025 of 14.028 M km2 to 13.979 M km2 for this week.  The sea ice extent right now continues to be at the lowest on record for this time of year; and despite the relatively low decrease in sea ice this past week, we are moving further into the sea ice melt season.

The negative sea ice anomaly this week was lower than the anomaly of -0.8692 M km2 on 03/27/2025 to a lesser negative anomaly of -0.7676 M km2 on 04/03/2025, and so less anomalously negative for this time of year.
