King Salmon April 2016

King Salmon had a mean monthly temperature of 43.2°F, 9.5°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 61°F on the 21st, which also set a new record for that day, breaking the 2014 record by 4°F. Nine more daily records were set or tied: on the 2nd, the 51°F observed broke the 1935 record, on the 8th the 51°F topped the 1987 record, on the 9th the 54°F record from 1940 was tied, on the 13th the 59°F recorded broke the 1990 record, on the 15th the record of 58°F from 1965 was tied, on the 16th 57°F was observed, breaking the 1996 record, on the 17th the record of 55°F from 1965 was tied, and on the 22nd the 57°F observed broke the 2008 record, and finally the high of 55°F on the 23rd tied the record from 2014. All these high temperatures resulted in the warmest April on record, topping the 1940 mean of 42.0°F. The lowest temperature for the month was 22°F on the 8th.

 

Precipitation was lighter than normal, with 0.85" measured, 0.12" below the expected 0.97". No snowfall was recorded, while 3.9" was expected. The average wind speed was 10.3 mph, while the highest was 52 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 9th.
