Anchorage April 2017

  

Anchorage had a mean monthly temperature of 40.4°F this April, 3.6°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 56°F on the 22nd, while the lowest temperature was 26°F on the 3rd and 19th.

 

Precipitation was below normal, with 0.40” measured, 0.07” below normal, while no snowfall was recorded and 4.0” expected. The average wind speed was 5.5 mph, while the highest was 34 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 30th.

Barrow April Summary

 

The mean monthly temperature for Barrow in April was 6.6°F, 4.8°F above the normal of 1.8°F. The highest temperature for the month occurred on the 11th and 18th at 21°F while the lowest was -21°F occurring on the 3rd.

 

Precipitation was 0.16” below than normal, with no measureable precipitation recorded. Snowfall was recorded at 0.6”, 2.6” below normal. The average wind speed was 13.3 mph, while the highest value was 38 mph from an easterly direction on the 15th.

Delta Junction April 2017

The highest wind speed was 33 mph from a northeasterly direction on the 19th, while the average wind speed was 7.3 mph.

Juneau April 2017

 

The mean monthly temperature for Juneau in April was 43.0°F, 2.2°F above the normal for the month. The highest temperature for the month was 62°F occurring on the 22nd and 23rd. The lowest temperature for the month was 27°F occurring on the 15th and 17th.

 

Precipitation was lower than normal with 1.96” measured, 0.98” below normal. The highest wind speed was 41 mph from an easterly direction on the 5th while the average wind speed was 7.2 mph.

Ketchikan April 2017

 

Ketchikan had a mean monthly temperature of 45.4°F, 2.9°F above the normal for April. The highest temperature for the month was 62°F occurring on the 12th, while the lowest was 31°F on the 2nd. The high temperature of 61°F on the 13th set a new daily record, breaking the old record of 60°F set in 1963.

 

Precipitation was lighter (39%) than normal, with 3.67” measured and 9.38” normally expected.

King Salmon April 2017

 

King Salmon had a mean monthly temperature of 38.9°F this April, 5.2°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 56°F occurring on the 13th, 14th and 23rd. while the lowest was 18°F on the 3rd.

 

Precipitation was light with 0.75” recorded, 0.22” below normal, while snowfall was also light with 74% of normal, with 2.9” measured and 3.9” normally expected. The average wind speed was 8.2 mph while the highest wind speed was 40 mph from an easterly direction on the 21st.

Kodiak April 2017

 

April’s mean monthly temperature for Kodiak was 39.9°F, 2.3°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 54°F occurring on the 13th, while the minimum was 25°F occurring on the 2nd.

 

Precipitation was above normal and measured at 7.35”, 127% of the normal of 5.81". The total precipitation on the 5th of 2.04" set a daily record, breaking the 2004 record of 1.52". Then on the 22nd, the total of 1.23" broke the old record of 1.13" set way back in 1939. Snowfall was light at just 14% of normal with 1.1” recorded and 8.0” expected. The average wind speed was 11.1 mph while the highest wind speed was 53 mph from a northeasterly direction on the 3rd.

Nome April 2017

 

Nome had a mean monthly temperature of 30.4°F this April, a significant 9.9°F above the normal of 20.5°F. The highest temperature for the month was 51°F on the 30th, while the lowest value was 2°F on the 2nd. The daily high of 48°F on the 24th broke the old record for that day of 47°F set way back in 1940.

 

Precipitation was considerably lower than normal with 0.15” measured, just 20% of the normal of 0.76". Snowfall was likewise very low with just 15% of normal with a total of 1.1". Mean snow depth was about 30% above normal. The average wind speed was 8.2 mph while the highest was 35 mph from a northwesterly direction on the 20th.
