Anchorage February 2017

 

 

Anchorage had a mean monthly temperature of 18.7°F this February, -1.5°F below normal. The highest temperature for the month was 43°F on the 14th, which tied the record for that day set in 1977 and 2013, while the lowest temperature was -8°F on the 12th.

 

Precipitation was heavier than normal, with 0.99” measured, 0.27” above normal, while snowfall was 180% of normal, with 19.6” recorded and 10.9” usually expected. The average wind speed was 4.8 mph, while the highest was 38 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 14th.

Barrow February 2017

 

 

The mean monthly temperature for Barrow in February was -6.2°F, 8.0°F above the normal of -14.2°F. The highest temperature for the month occurred on the 2nd at 26°F while the lowest was -29°F occurring on the 22nd.

 

Precipitation was 0.26” higher than normal, with 0.40” measured and 0.14” expected. Snowfall was recorded at 4.9”, 2.3” above normal. The average wind speed was 11.8 mph, while the highest value was 45 mph from an easterly direction on the 25th.

Delta Junction February 2017

 

 

Delta Junction’s mean monthly temperature was 8.4°F in February, 3.5°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 46°F on the 14th, which also set a record for that day, breaking the old 1977 record by 7°F. The lowest temperature recorded this month was -34°F on the 12th.

 

Precipitation was 0.26” just 0.02” below normal.

Fairbanks February 2017

 

 

Fairbanks had a mean monthly temperature of 0.7°F, 2.0°F above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 35°F occurring on the 14th, while the lowest was -41°F on the 12th.

 

Precipitation was 1.24”, 0.82” above the normal of 0.42”. Snowfall was measured at 23.3”, 188% of normal, 15.2” above the expected 8.1”, with over half of that amount falling from the 23rd to 25th. Each of these days set new daily record: on the 23rd, 2.8" broke the 1968 record of 2.5", on the 24th the 3.5" topped the 2008 record of 2.6", then on the 25th the 7.0" broke the 2011 record of 5.0". The highest wind speed was 32 mph from a westerly direction on the 26th while the average wind speed was 3.2 mph.

Juneau February 2017

 

 

The mean monthly temperature for Juneau in February was 30.1°F, matching the normal for the month. The highest temperature for the month was 53°F occurring on the 14th, which also set a record for that day, breaking the old 1942 record by 7°F. The lowest temperature for the month was 11°F occurring on the 8th.

 

Precipitation was slightly heavier than normal with 4.31” measured, 0.18” above normal. The precipitation total on the 11th of 1.86" broke the old daily record of 0.82" set in 1994. Snowfall was a mere 24% of normal, with 4.1” measured and 16.8” expected. The highest wind speed was 54 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 11th while the average wind speed was 7.2 mph.

Ketchikan February 2017

 

 

Ketchikan had a mean monthly temperature of 33.4°F, 2.4°F below the normal for February. The highest temperature for the month was 51°F occurring on the 14th, while the lowest was 12°F on the 8th.

 

Precipitation was heavier than normal, with 12.35” measured, and 10.53” normally expected.

Kodiak February 2017

 

 

February’s mean monthly temperature for Kodiak was 30.0°F, just 0.8°F below normal. The highest temperature for the month was 46°F occurring on the 23rd, while the minimum was 9°F occurring four times: on the 10th, 11th (which set a minimum temperature record for that day, breaking the old 1996 record by 1°F), 12th, and 21st.

 

Precipitation was measured at 2.59”, 3.55” below normal of 6.19", while snowfall was just 85% of normal with 12.8” recorded and 15.1” expected. The total snowfall of 4.8" on the 15th set a new daily record, breaking the old 2012 record of 4.2". The average wind speed was 8.6 mph while the highest wind speed was 60 mph from a westerly direction on the 27th.

Nome February 2017

 

 

Nome had a mean monthly temperature of 2.3°F this February, 5.1°F below the normal of 7.4°F. The highest temperature for the month was 33°F on the 25th, while the lowest value was -29°F on the 19th.

 

Precipitation was slightly higher than normal with 1.03” measured, 0.10” above normal. Snowfall was 141% of normal, with 17.2” recorded, 5.0” above normal. 10.1” of snow fell on the 23rd, breaking the old record for that day, set in 1996, by 4.5”. The average wind speed was 8.5 mph while the highest was 52 mph from a northerly direction on the 14th.
