Fairbanks's September mean monthly temperature was 42.4°F, 2.5°F below the expected value of 44.9°F. The warmest temperature for the month was observed on the 3rd at 69°F, while the minimum was nearly 50°F colder, at 20°F on the 26th.
3.74" of precipitation were measured, 2.64" above the 1.10" normally expected. Contributing to this were two daily records set: on the 13th 0.55" was measured, breaking the old 1992 record for that day by 0.06", and on the 29th the 0.74" measured broke the 1954 record by 0.24". An incredible 20.9" of snow were measured, 19.1", or 1061% above the normal 1.8" of snow. This is a new monthly snowfall record, breaking the old 12.9" set in 1992. Two daily snow records were broken; on the 25th 6.7" of snow was observed, shattering the old 1996 record for that day by 5.9", and on the 29th, the same day that broke a daily rainfall record, 11.2" were observed, breaking the old 1972 record by 4.2". This snowfall also broke the record for snow for any September day, previously held by September 13th, 1992, with 7.8". The average wind speed was 4.0 mph, while the maximum was 31 mph on the 10th blowing from a southerly direction.
Anchorage's September mean monthly temperature was 46.4°F, 2.2°F below the long term mean. The highest temperature for the month was 63°F on the 2nd, while the lowest was 28°F on the 24th.
Precipitation was 258% of normal, with 7.71" measured, and 2.99" expected. Four new daily precipitation records contributed to this: on the 8th the 1.19" that fell broke the old 1990 record for that day by 0.27", on the 15th the 0.94" that was measured broke the old 1962 record for that day of 0.61", on the 27th the 0.72" that was observed broke the old 1979 record by a mere 0.01", and finally 1.56" fell on the 29th, breaking the old 1961 record for that day by 0.35". This is also new record precipitation total for any day in September, breaking the old record of 1.21" from September 19, 2012. And it was the wettest September on record for Anchorage as the total of 7.71" broke the old 2004 record of 7.61". Snowfall was also heavier than normal, with 2.8" observed and a mere 0.4" expected. The average wind speed was 5.6 mph, while the highest wind speed of 38 mph blowing from a southeasterly direction occurred on the 10th.
September's mean monthly temperature for Barrow was 31.1°F, 1.0°F colder than normal. The warmest temperature for the month was 45°F on the 2nd, while the coldest was 21°F on the 22nd.
Precipitation was slightly less than normal, with 0.45" recorded, and 0.72" expected. Snowfall also near normal, with 4.6" observed, just 0.2" above normal. The highest wind speed was 37 mph on the 11th blowing from a northeasterly direction, while the average wind speed was 12.3 mph.
Delta Junction had a mean monthly temperature of 41.3°F this September 2.6°F below the normal of 43.9°F. The highest temperature for the month was 63°F on the 7th, while the lowest was 23°F on the 24th and 25th. On the 13th, the lowest temperature for the day was 24°F, which set a new minimum daily record for that day, breaking the old 1954 record by 3°F.
Precipitation was less than normal, with 0.62" observed, with 1.03" expected Despite the less than normal amount of precipitation, on the 29th 0.33" of precipitation were observed, over half of the total monthly amount, breaking the old 2006 record of 0.28" for that day.
The mean monthly temperature for September in Juneau was 49.2°F, just 0.8°F below normal. The warmest temperature for the month was 67°F on the 3rd, while the coldest was 32°F on the 22nd.
Precipitation was heavier than normal with 11.51" measured and 8.64" expected. Contributing to this was the 1.62" on the 29th, which broke the old 1970 record for that day by 0.1". The average wind speed was 8.5 mph while the highest wind speed of 51 mph occurred on the 29th blowing from a southeasterly direction.
September was cooler than normal for King Salmon, with a mean monthly temperature of 46.8°F, 0.8°F below normal. The highest temperature for the month was 66°F which occurred on both the 1st and 6th, while the lowest temperature for the month was 22°F on the 23rd. One daily record low temperature was set on the 1st, with the 26°F observed for the day, 2°F less than the old 1980 record.
Precipitation was near normal with 3.25" measured, and 3.19" expected. Only trace amounts of snowfall were detected, while 0.1" is normal. The average wind speed was 8.8 mph while the highest wind speed was 45 mph blowing from a northwesterly direction on the 29th.
Kodiak's September mean monthly temperature was 0.9°F warmer than normal, with 50.3°F observed and 49.4°F expected. The highest temperature for the month was 66°F on the first of the month, while the coldest was 29°F on the 24th. The high of 60°F on the 25th tied the daily record set just the year before. One new daily high temperature was set, with 64°F observed on the 27th breaking the 1970 record for that day by 2°F, and just three days prior the 29 °F observed broke the minimum temperature record for that day by 1°F, set back in 1992.
Precipitation was much lower than normal, with 2.16" measured, 5.19" below the expected 7.35". Snowfall, however, was slightly higher than normal with 0.6" measured, and none expected. All of this snow fell on the 29th, which also set a record for that day. The average wind speed was 8.2 mph with a highest wind speed of 54 mph occurred on the 29th from a northwesterly direction.
Nome's mean monthly temperature for September was 40.0°F, 2.8°F below the average 42.8°F expected. The highest temperature for the month was 57°F on the 4th, while the lowest was 18°F on the 22nd, which also set a low daily temperature record, breaking the 1992 record by 2°F.
Precipitation was lighter than normal with 1.49" measured, and 2.45" expected. Snowfall was also less than normal with 0.2" observed and 0.6" expected. The average wind speed was 9.5 mph with a highest wind speed of 37 mph from a northwesterly direction on the 11th.
