Despite the mostly above normal temperatures for the month, no new records were set.
Precipitation was mere 0.22", or 38% of the normal of 0.58". Snow was also less than normal, with 2.5" measure, or just 24% of the normal amount of 10.3". The average wind speed for the month was 2.0 mph, with the greatest gust recorded at 21 mph, from a westerly direction on the 22nd.
For January Anchorage had an observed mean temperature of 29.4°F, a substantial 12.3°F over the normal mean of 17.1°F. Overall the month was warmer than normal, aside from a brief dip on the 11th, 12th, and 13th where temperatures were close to normal, or slightly below. The highest temperature of the month was 50°F, occurring on the 27th. This is a new daily record, breaking the old high of 45°F from 1985. On the 17th the daily temperature matched the record set on that day in 1992 of 46.0°F, while the 48°F on the 23rd matched a 1977 record for the warmest daily temperature. Finally on the 26th the high of 46.0°F set a record for that day, breaking a 1975 and 2001 record of 42°F. The coldest temperature for the month was 10°F, recorded on the 12th.
Precipitation for January was above normal, with 1.37" recorded for the month, or 188% of the normal of 0.73". Two precipitation records were set for the month. On the 15th, the 0.25" that fell broke a 2006 record of 0.19", while on the 23rd the 0.50" that fell, smashed the 2008 record of 0.15". Snowfall totaled 9.2", 2.1" less than the normal amount of 11.3". The average wind speed was 5.1 mph; while the greatest gust was 43 mph from a southeasterly direction on the 17th.

Precipitation was relatively normal at 0.43", a mere 0.12" above the normal of 0.31".
Juneau's mean temperature for January was 36.6°F or 8.3°F above the long-term mean, and the second warmest since 1944. The warmest temperature for the month was 50°F occurring on the 18th. Three daily max temperature records were broken, on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. The average daily low of 33.5°F is the warmest on record. The coldest temperature for the month was at the end of the month on the 30th and 31st, with 27°F observed.
Precipitation for January was heavier than normal, with 10.15" observed, or nearly double (190%) of the normal amount of 5.35". This is a new record total for January, just breaking the old record of 10.13" set in 1985". Two daily precipitation records were broken, one on the 14th, and another on the 22nd. However, snowfall was light, with only 4.7" measured, a mere 17% of the normal amount of 27.7". The average wind speed was 7.7 mph, with the highest gust being 52 mph, recorded on the 14th from a westerly direction.
Ketchikan was 5.2°F warmer than normal this January, with a monthly mean of 40.1°F. The warmest temperature for the month was 52°F, occurring on both the 14th and the 21st. A temperature of 51°F on the 23rd tied a record set in 1981. The coldest temperature for the month was 25°F occurring on the 31st.
Precipitation was slightly less than normal (-0.99") with 14.41" recorded compared to the normal of 15.40".
The January monthly mean temperature for King Salmon was 34.8°F, a substantial 18.6°F over the normal of 16.2°F, and was the warmest January on record for the area. The warmest temperature was a balmy 51°F on the 26th. Six new daily high temperature records were set or tied: on the 7th the 43°F recorded tied the 1988 record, on the 22nd, the 44°F measured that day broke the 42°F 2013 record, on the 23rd 50°F was reported, breaking a 1963 record, and the 25th and 26th also broke 1963 records (with 48°F and 51°F measured respectively), and the 29th 47°F broke a 1994 record. The coldest day of the month was 10°F on the 11th.
Precipitation was slightly above normal, with 1.75" measured, or 0.73" above the long-term mean. Snowfall, at 10.6" was just above normal of 10.2". A new daily snowfall record was set on the 12th with a total of 2.5", breaking the 2009 value of 1.7". The average wind speed was 10.5 mph, and overall was a windy month for King Salmon, with three new peak wind records set (on the 17th, 25th, and 26th), with the highest wind speed for the month being 59 mph from an easterly direction on the 17th.
Kodiak in January was warmer than normal wit ha monthly mean of 36.8°F, 6.3°F above the long-term mean. The warmest temperature for the month was a 46°F, which was recorded on the 17th and 23rd. The high on the 17th was a new record, breaking the old high of 45°F reached in 1985 and 1950. On the 20th, the recorded temperature of 45°F set a new daily high record for the day, while on the 25th, the daily record of 43°F was tied. The coldest day of the month was on the 13th, with 18°F recorded.
Precipitation was heavier than normal with 14.30" observed, or 172% of the normal of 8.29". One new precipitation record was set on the 17th with 2.74", breaking the 1.60" record from 2000. Monthly snowfall however was lighter than normal, with only 5.1" inches of snowfall observed, a mere 39% of the expected 13.0". The average wind speed was 10.5 mph, with the greatest gust being 47 mph observed on the 19th, from a northeasterly direction.
January in Nome was warmer than normal, with a monthly mean of 21.3°F, or 16.1°F above the normal of 5.2°F. The warmest temperature for the month was 51°F, recorded on the 27th. On the 26th a high of 45.0°F was observed, breaking a 1963 record of 43.0°F, while the 51°F on the 27th also broke a 1963 record of 40.0°F. That 51°F is the highest temperature ever record in Nome in January breaking the old record of 46°F from the 7th in 1946. The coldest temperature recorded was ‑17°F on the 15th.
Precipitation totaled 1.57", 0.63" above normal. Meanwhile snowfall was only slightly less than normal with 12.2" of snowfall observed with 12.7" expected. The average wind speed was 12.8 mph, while the greatest wind gust was 63 mph on the 17th, from a northeasterly direction.
