Anchorage February 2010

The mean temperature in Anchorage was 25.6°F, 6.9°F above normal and the monthly high and low temperatures were 44°F on the 15th and 2°F on the 4th.  Precipitation totals were 0.77”, 0.03” short of the mean.  15.6” of snowfall was reported at the airport, 41% more than normal, and 20” of snow was on the ground at the end of the month.

Barrow February 2010

Barrows average temperature was -9.7°F, 6.0°F warmer than normal and temperatures reached 7.0°F on the 3rd, 16th and 18th, and  -43°F on the 28th.  Precipitation recorded this month was 0.38”, 0.26” above normal for February and a new precipitation record was set on the 19th of 0.15” breaking the old record of 0.09” set in 2006.  Snowfall totaled 7.9”, which was 6.0” above the 1971-2000 average, and set a new snowfall record on the 19th of 3.0”, breaking the previous record of 2.4” set in 2009.   12.8 inches of snow was on the ground at the end of the month.

Juneau February 2010

Juneau had an average temperature of 36.2°F this month, 7.3°F higher than the average monthly mean.  The high temperature was 49°F on the 13th, and the low was 23°F on the 22nd.   February’s precipitation was 1.32”, just 33% of normal.  Snowfall totaled 0.4”, only 3% of the long-term mean, and no snow was left on the ground at the end of the month.

Ketchikan February 2010

The mean temperature for Ketchikan* this month was 40.8°F, 4.5°F higher than the mean.  The high temperature was 53°F on the 5th, and the low was 27°F recorded on the 9th.  February precipitation in Ketchikan totaled 10.94” this month, 97% of normal and a new precipitation record was set on the 28th of February of 3.08”.

Nome February 2010

The average temperature in Nome was 6.6°F, 0.9°F above normal for February.  The high for the month was 34°F, which occurred on the 21st, and the low of -35°F fell on the 27th.  0.51” of precipitation was recorded on Nome this month, which is 68% of average.  Snowfall totaled 5.4”, which is 63% of normal and 15” of snow was still on the ground by the end of February.

Fairbanks January 2010

Temperatures in Fairbanks averaged -13.7°F at the airport, 4.0°F below normal for January. The high temperature was 17°F on the 7th, and the low was -41°F on the 12th. Heating degree-days totaled 2345, 120dd more than the average of 2315.

Precipitation totaled 0.02”, just 4% of normal. 1.1 inch of snowfall was recorded this month, 9.1” less than the normal January total, and the second lowest January snowfall on record. 10 inches of snow was still on the ground at the start of February.

Anchorage January 2010

The mean temperature in Anchorage was 18.5°F, 2.7°F above normal and the monthly high and low temperatures were 33°F on the 7th and 1°F on the 2nd. With warmer than normal conditions, heating degree-days were 82dd below the average of 1526 for the month. Precipitation totals were 0.65”, 0.03” short of the mean. 10.9” of snowfall was reported at the airport, 21% more than normal, and 14” of snow was on the ground at the end of the month.
